What are the best dogs breed for a family with kids?

Posted by Mélanie De Nobile on

For some people, having a dog with kids is a risk, but a well-trained and supervised dog can instead provide many valuable lessons and other benefits to children. Having to remember to feed, provide water, and clean up after a dog can give children a sense of importance and satisfaction that they can’t get from school or other chores. Dogs also teach children patience, as they can be incredibly frustrating: chewing and destroying household items, for example. Also, like most of us, dogs are social animals who enjoy and need attention and affection.  By learning how to interact with a dog, children can learn how to better socialize with strangers and other children.

Now that we know some of the benefits of having a dog with children, it is true that some breeds have a few common characteristics we find among the best family dogs. Those characteristics can cover a wide variety of breeds, however. So how do you choose the right dog? Consider the following factors as you research dog breeds, and keep in mind that the best family dogs are truly unique to you and your needs.

  • The size: Make sure your family’s circumstances suit the size of your potential new pet.
  • His energy: Consider whether your family is looking for a hiking buddy or a furry snuggle bug.
  • Care: Have you thought about grooming? Who will take the dog for walks? Consider your potential pet’s needs and whether or not your family can meet them before committing to that adorable furry face.
  • Temperament: Different dogs have different personalities too, and your pet’s should fit in right alongside your family’s.

Keeping that in head, here is a quick breakdown of breeds that could make the perfect companion.
